Check out the Meetings page for more information. Don’t forget to checkout the available jobs in the area, we try to keep them updated on a monthly basis. COISUG and EDCO

COISUG continues to be a great success in Central Oregon. As we get bigger and people start to move on we will need support, not only within the group but externally to help promote and feed our activities. With that in mind we are looking for community centric organizations to help us grow and thrive over the next 2, 5 or even 10 years. EDCO, Economic Development for Central Oregon, has expressed interest in helping us promote and support that vision. “Edco is a private non-profit organization dedicated to building a vibrant and thriving regional economy by attracting new investment and jobs through marketing, recruitment and working with existing employers.” We are hoping to develop a relationship with EDCO that will help us promote the group and provide us with resources should we need them in the future. Be sure to checkout the EDCO Pub Talks (a lot of fun). More information to come!

Happy New Year

We hope that everyone had a great holiday and that you took some time off to enjoy friends and family. We have an exciting year ahead of us starting the year off with a visit from Microsoft on January 16 at 1:00PM. On the agenda for the January 16 meeting is SharePoint, Exchange, Live Communications server and more. Microsoft has assembled a great team for this event, so bring all of your Microsoft centric questions to the event!

Next up on February 13 we will be hosting Oracle. Oracle is extremely excited about coming out to discuss their suite of services and solutions. I usually align Oracle with Fortune 1000 companies however they have a clear play in the small/medium size business market; this will be a very informative meeting. We look forward to another great year so spread the word and enjoy!

Silicon Mechanics

Silicon Mechanics (http://www.siliconmechanics.com) outdid themselves with a great presentation on server hardware, including an informational look into the environmental concerns that data centers are facing worldwide. Discussion and participations was excellent. There were a lot of new faces in the crowd, welcome and thank you for your support. Send in your O’Reilly book orders by Wednesday of next week so that they will be in by next meeting (Microsoft – January 16). Remember to write reviews on the books that you receive; let’s try to get at least 4 reviews in before the next order. If you want a shirt from Silicon Mechanics, send in an email with your size. Thanks again for a great meeting, and continue spreading the word!

Thanks to Vmware, December Meeting

Thanks again to everyone for coming to the last meeting, a very big turnout! The presentation on Vmware was very informative and well received. A big “Thank You” goes out to Vmware and the EMC team from Portland for making this event possible. If you would like additional information from Vmware, please send us an email at info at coisug dot info. Congratulations to those that won the Vmware Workstation licenses and the video iPod!

We are growing fast and people are having a great time networking, sharing ideas and experiences. COISUG is already a huge success; did you know that we have already helped people find and land jobs? If you have yet to come to a meeting, drop in and find out what everyone is talking about. In December we have Silicon Mechanics, out of Washington, stopping by to talk shop about Servers, Blades and where the industry is heading. Have a great month and thanks again.
